7th-10th October 2008
Photos have kindly been provided by Ted May and Ian Dale with comments by Robin Bray.
The weather, as usual, was generally fine although on day 1 it was a bit cool. The course and surrounding gardens, having regard to the on-going drought, were in very good condition, however the greens like last year, had recently been cored and sanded and this made it difficult to read and hit putts on the first 2 days.
Ted May, our golfing group co-ordinator, arranged various grouping combinations each day culminating with an `Ambrose` round on the final day. We hadn't played this form previously and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and certainly made for competitive group totals. Colin Lourie's group `blitzed` the field with a 6 under par round for 18 holes.
Following our round on the second day some of us took a picnic lunch down to the banks of the Murray River and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the `Aussie` bush alongside this great river.
Our traditional final day sausage and onion BBQ lunch was enjoyed by all and our `chefs` Ian Dale and Margaret Stevens, kept us supplied with a grand feast.
We all enjoyed nibbles and drinks after each days play prior to dinner in the golf club bistro. After some `chocoholics` who will remain nameless!) tried to empty out the chocolate dispensing machine in the Bistro, dinner was followed by a little dabble on the 'pokies' in the gaming room or the board game Rummikub in the lounge afterwards!
Club President, Val Dale, presented a bottle of wine to Ted on behalf of all those attending and thanked him for his work in making this outing another great success. Ted also presented bottles to Marilyn Lourie and Robin Bray for the 'nearest to the pin' trophies, and also prizes to Colin Lourie and his team members, Ian Jackson, Barbara May and Lorna Bridgland for their `Ambrose` round win. Thanks to all for another grand golfing trip away and we look forward to our next adventure together.
