"ROMANTIC JOURNEY on the YARRA VALLEY TOURIST RAILWAY"
28th January 2005
These photos have kindly been made available by Ros White and Russell Cooper.
The Club visited the Yarra Valley Tourist Railway for a delightful experience on this old and previously abandoned
railway line which is being restored by volunteers of the Yarra Valley Tourist Railway Society in Healesville. The line is being
restored between Healesville and Yarra Glen. It currently extends through to the 150 metre long brick tunnel (built in 1889), approx.
15 minutes by trolley car from Healesville. When completed the railway experience will become a major tourist attraction for this
section of the Yarra Valley.
Sixty eight club members enjoyed a delicious chicken and salad smorgasbord with cake, hot and cold drinks as well as an evening
tolley ride through the tunnel and a presentation on the valuable work being carried out by the Society in restoring the old line.
Club members, Margaret and Rodney Keir and Gwen and Allan McKean won the rose bush raffles at the conclusion of the evening.
