Two bus loads of Probians went to Brisbane where we boarded the paddle steamer “Kookaburra Queen” for lunch, an afternoon’s entertainment and a commentary on the City of Brisbane as we “paddled’ up and down the Brisbane River. On the way we had stopped at Mt. Coot-tha Lookout for the splendid views over the city and the river.
On board the Tall Ship “Sir Henry Morgan” as we sailed back to Broadbeach from Sth. Stradbroke Island. Uncharacteristically, the wind was bitterly cold so braziers were lit as we ate a splendid BBQ lunch, washed down with a drop of red, before we took off on a 4WD trip along the beach to see the island at its pristine best. Running parallel to our “Tall Ship” was the “Maranoa” which carried the overflow of Probus members. Far too many for the one “Tall Ship”. Other Probians went Whale Watching.
At the Outback Dinner Show we were given hats to wear – red bands and yellow bands – each belonging to a different outback station. During the performance, properties competed for honours in rounding up long horned cattle, steers and a mob of sheep as well as some pretty fancy horse riding. Later the stock was rounded up using a helicopter and some 4WD motor vehicles – a concession to modern station management. We roared ourselves hoarse (pun not intended) as our station got out in front. WE WON! (The red headbands).
