"Lakes Entrance"

The Golfing Group along with other non-playing club members and friends spent 3 wonderful days and nights in picturesque Lakes Entrance. We enjoyed great weather for the three days with the temperature in the low 20s with a gentle breeze blowing off the mostly calm Bass Strait.

This challenging course is very well maintained with soft green fairways (some extremely long up to 509m), fluffy sand bunkers and generous well manicured greens. The sylvan setting of the course, set against the sand dunes and boasting many lakes and water hazards is pure delight to play and an obvious favourite for many of the local birdlife.

Barry, our Activity Leader, selected teams on a daily basis to ensure team rotation as much as possible for social interaction. Tee off on the first day was scheduled for early afternoon to allow members to arrive from Melbourne. Teams were mixed, ladies and men together, and play continued for as long as the light permitted. Next day we set off early with the girls teeing off first, followed by the guys.

With a blue sky above, a gentle breeze blowing off the ocean and great company to boot, we soon got into the holiday spirit.

Prizes for the longest drives went to Julie (ladies) and Robin (mens), with closest to the pin being won by Robin.

Accomodation was very comfortable at the Heyfield Motel and their newly installed 'cold' water pool was put to good use by John and Robin after the resident family of fairy penguins had been shooed away thanks to Peter Hogan!

Each afternoon around 4.30pm, we gathered around the outdoor table for 'Happy Hour'. This was the necessary pre-cursor to dinner and gave us the opportunity to relate the days golfing or other activities highlights and lowlights.

Following 'Happy Hour' it was into the glad rags for dinner at the RSL or Entertainment Centre Bistros.

We thoroughly enjoyed the ambience of the Bistros and the food was good too. Afterwards we had a bit of a plunge on the 'pokies'. When all were gathered together our President, Ian Jackson, on behalf of the members, made a presentation to our hard working organiser Barry Stevens in appreciation of his and wife Margaret's efforts in making this golfing trip away to Lakes Entrance another memorable and outstanding success.
