12th-15th November 2012

The Club Golfing Group and partners made the annual trip to Howlong enjoying the golfing, lawn bowling, fishing in the Murray, swimming in the motel pool, and for the ladies, some shopping in Albury. Monday's first round commenced at 1PM and was just casual play with members opting to play either 9 or 18 holes as they wished. The weather was fine though a touch windy and the course and surrounding gardens were to their normal excellent standard. 'Happy Hour' commenced as usual in the afternoon after each day`s activities around 5PM. Dinner each evening was in the Golf Club Bistro and comprised delicious chinese meals on two evenings, (a la carte and bistro), and traditional Australian meals the other. Dinner was followed for some by a little dabble on the 'pokies' in the gaming room and/or a `noisy` dice game of ZILCH, introduced to us by the Mathews.

On Tuesday we teed off at 8AM on the 10th hole in teams.

The second day tee off was early at 8AM from the 10th tee. John Randall, our activity coordinator, arranged the teams, mixing up the players from the previous day. Some of the non-playing ladies headed off for a walk and coffee in Howlong. Brian and John went fishing and to just relax on the banks of the Murray. At the end of the round some of us took a cool dip in the motel pool and spa before the BBQ lunch.

After the round on Tuesday we were treated as usual to a delicious barbecue lunch of sausages and onions on bread prepared by our `chefs` Barbara and Margaret with the assistance of some of our ladies.

Our final day commenced around midday with an 18 hole `Ambrose` round with the teams matched up as evenly as John could manage with Lynn's able assistance. As well as the teams event we had men's and ladies `Nearest to the Pin` and `The Longest Drive` competitions. After the round John, Brian, Barry and Lynn slipped away to the banks of the Murray to again try their luck for cod and perch, with some modest success! However what would normally be considered good catches unfortunately had to be thrown back in because of their size. We had hoped that they would have brought back our dinner for the evening! A few of the ladies drove into Albury for a shopping spree!

At `Happy Hour` the award ceremony took place. Winner of the ladies `Longest Drive` was Barbara Whitwell and `Nearest the Pin` went to Julie Kent. Robin Bray won the men's `Longest Drive` and John Randall `Nearest the Pin`. The winning Ambrose Team was Lynn Carter, John Hall, Julie Kent and Bery Dickenson. Congratulations to all the winners.
